Salt Lake Tribune, January 30, 2024--Going fast is something the senior standout is quite used to.
Going fast is something Brynn Leavitt is quite used to, both on the track and as a barrel racer at rodeos. So her answer isn’t very surprising when asked if she has a favorite between the 100- and 200-meter sprints.
“It’s the 100. Absolutely. The 100 is my favorite,” she said.
Leavitt certainly does well enough in the 200 meters, where a more measured approach is needed over the longer distance. She finished sixth at the Class 3A 200M finals last spring.
But it’s the all-out 100 meters where Leavitt almost won it all last year, finishing second, and she’s the fastest returning sprinter this season. In mid-January, in the 60-yard sprint at an event at BYU, Leavitt broke her own personal-best time.
And she’s set her sights for May.
“For state, it’d be really cool if I could break the state record,” Leavitt said.
In the meantime, the South Summit senior will content herself with other meets, practice — and rodeo. The spring rodeo season begins at the end of March and Leavitt practices for that at a facility in Marion, north of Kamas.
“I was consistently in the top 10,” she said of the fall season, which runs from August through November. “I was pretty happy with that.”
