Privacy on This Website (Utah GDPA)

Who we are. This is the official website for South Summit School District, a Utah public school entity.

Why this notice exists. Utah’s Government Data Privacy Act (GDPA) requires Utah government websites—including public school and district sites—to tell visitors what personal information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and how to exercise privacy rights.

What we collect on this site.

  • If you submit a form (e.g., Contact Us, job interest, newsletter), we receive the information you choose to send and use it only for the stated purpose.
  • Like most sites, we may collect limited user data automatically (e.g., IP address, device information, pages visited) to operate/secure the site and understand usage. If we use any tracking technologies (e.g., basic web analytics), they are described below.

What we don’t do. We do not sell personal data and we do not conduct undisclosed or covert surveillance.

Your choices and rights. You may request access to or correction of your personal or user data. You may also contact Utah’s Data Privacy Ombudsperson for help with concerns about a Utah governmental entity’s privacy practices.

Your privacy rights
You may request access to personal or user data we maintain about you and request correction or amendment of that data. Utah law provides additional protections for certain at-risk employees.

Personal data you give us (forms/requests)
When we ask for personal data (for example on a contact form, newsletter signup, or facility request), we will provide a brief notice at or before collection that states: the purpose(s), the consequences of not providing the information, the classes of recipients (e.g., service providers), and the records series where it is kept. We only use the data for the purposes identified in that notice.

User data collected automatically
If our website collects user data automatically (e.g., IP address, device/browser details, pages visited), we disclose:

    • Any tracking technologies used;
    • What user data is collected and why;
    • Who it may be shared with (e.g., service providers that help operate the site);
    • Whether it is sold (it is not); and
    • The records series where it is kept. We post this notice conspicuously on the homepage or link to it from the homepage.

Typical examples on a school website:

    • Strictly necessary cookies for site operation;
    • Basic analytics (if enabled) to understand aggregate usage;
    • Embedded tools (maps, videos, calendars) that may set their own cookies per the provider’s policy.

Our uses and sharing of data
We process only the minimum personal data reasonably necessary for specified, lawful purposes (for example, responding to your inquiry, providing public services, site security, and records compliance). We do not sell personal data and do not conduct undisclosed or covert surveillance.

Contractors and website provider
School Webmasters is our website service provider. They do not collect student information for their own purposes. When a contractor processes any personal data on our behalf, they are subject to the GDPA’s requirements for that data, and our contracts include GDPA-compliant privacy terms.

Access/correction requests and raising a concern
To request access or a correction/amendment to personal or user data we hold, contact us using the information above. For assistance with concerns about a Utah governmental entity’s privacy practices, you may contact the Utah Data Privacy Ombudsperson.
