Our Mission
To empower all students with the knowledge, skills, and character needed to succeed in a changing world by providing engaging, challenging, and relevant educational experiences.
Our History
In the spring of 1913, newly elected Superintendent of Summit County Schools J. L. Kearns established three high school districts: North Summit, South Summit, and Park City. By April 1915, these became county districts, officially forming South Summit School District.
The first school board held its initial meeting on April 30, 1915, with Dr. C. F. Wherritt as president and Arthur Maxwell as vice president. They quickly passed a $30,000 bond to build a new high school, which opened in September 1916 at its current location in Kamas, Utah. The district already included schools in Woodland, Francis, Kamas, Marion, Oakley, and Peoa.
For over a century, this high school at the Gateway to the Uintas has remained a community hub. South Summit School District has grown from 38 to 1,700 students, maintaining its mission to support, empower, and inspire individuals to promote and achieve academic and character excellence.
