It's time to formalize boundaries for Silver Summit schools.
As the Silver Creek development continues to grow and more families move into the area of our Silver Summit Academy and Silver Summit Elementary schools, it’s necessary that we formalize the school boundaries between those schools and the schools in the Kamas area. Therefore, the School Board needs to undergo a formal boundary change process. The public will be given opportunities to provide public comment at future board meetings.

Another survey! Full Link: https://usbe.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_6y7Q8gzAlA701ka The Utah State Board of Education (USBE) Standards and Assessment Committee has developed a draft document entitled, “Gender Identity Guidance for Utah Public Education.” The document is intended to guide Utah schools in their effort to provide access to an educational environment that is safe, conducive to the learning process, and free from unnecessary disruption. The Board values educational equity, which includes the distribution of resources to provide equal opportunities based upon the needs of each individual student. Equitable resources include: Funding Programs, policies, and initiatives Support that recognizes each student’s unique background and school context to guarantee that all students have access to high-quality education. To ensure that the voices of all Utah communities are heard, USBE is seeking public feedback through participation in an online survey. The survey allows members of the public to review and provide feedback on each section of the draft document prior to the document being finalized. Public feedback will be reviewed at an upcoming Standards and Assessment Committee meeting to be held on February 23. The online survey will be open until Monday, February 7 at 5 p.m. MST. USBE will continue to offer opportunities for public engagement with this issue going forward.

The Utah State Board of Education (USBE) and the Utah State Legislature are partnering to reexamine the state’s school accountability system. The current Utah School Accountability System was established through Senate Bill 220 during the 2017 legislative session, prior to the advancement of the Personalized, Competency-Based Learning and Portrait of a Graduate initiatives. The pandemic has highlighted the dependency of the school accountability system on access to state assessment results. The state is seeking to build a new accountability system to be:
Inclusive of the additional initiatives
More comprehensive in evaluation criteria
Aligned with and supportive of continuous school improvement efforts for all schools
For this work to be successful, the state needs to hear from the public on the information needed to better understand school quality. USBE is asking interested members of the public to take a 10-minute, online survey to provide input on the future of school accountability in Utah. The survey will be open until February 18, 2022. USBE will offer both virtual and in-person opportunities to engage further along in the process.

Emma is our student School Board representative for the Silver Summit Academy. She likes being a part of the community and wanted to have a say in what was going on and give a different perspective. #wearesouthsummit #ssautah #schoolboardrecognitionmonth

Adam Halliday wanted to get more involved with the community and wanted to attend more board meetings. He wanted his opinions and the opinions of other students be heard by decision-making personnel. He was selected as the South Summit School Board member for the Kamas schools for the 2021-2022 school year. #wearesouthsummit #southsummithigh #schoolboardrecognitionmonth

Due to high Covid cases, South Summit School District schools are moving to a week of online learning. January 24-28, 2022 all schools will be remote.

After teaching at South Summit Elementary for 21 years, Wendy Radke ran for School Board feeling that she could be a good voice for teachers and students. She's been serving her Oakley constituents on the Board for two years now. #wearesouthsummit #schoolboardrecognitionmonth

Lynda Whitmore is on her second year serving with the School Board and she loves seeing the student success that comes with being a Board Member. She recognizes that we live in a great place with many wonderful experiences but it takes all of us to be involved to make it a success. That's one of the reasons she wanted to serve on the School Board. #wearesouthsummit #schoolboardrecognitionmonth
