Wrapping up School Social Work Week! Let's applaud our inspiring school social workers! Their commitment to fostering inclusive learning environments and addressing students' needs makes a world of difference. Thank you for being the guiding lights in our schools! Mrs. Cook loves helping students find ways to connect to themselves and others in healthy and sustainable ways, along with helping them to tolerate the less than stellar days that they invariably have. Their efforts align perfectly with the fourth goal of our School Board's Strategic Plan: Implement an effective mental health and social and emotional learning program. #WeAreSouthSummit #SSWW24 #PearlsOfWisdom

Celebrating School Social Work Week! Shoutout to the incredible school social workers who bring their expertise and unique educational background to our schools. They help create a positive and inclusive environment for students. Their presence contributes to the holistic development and well-being of students and strengthens the overall effectiveness of our school community. With the help of Mrs. Luther at South Summit Elementary we saw a 44% decrease in office referrals from the first to the second quarter and an increase in student attendance. #WeAreSouthSummit #SSWW24#PearlsOfWisdom #SchoolSocialWorkWeek

We're so happy to have Detective Stewart join the South Summit family. He spends his days getting to know the students at each school. At first some of the kids were a little concerned as to why there was a "policeman" at the school all the time. Now they know he's here to help keep them safe--and to even have a little fun with them. #WeAreSouthSummit #UTPublicEd #SRODay #SummitCounty

Coding Week: Follow instructions. Silver Summit Elementary, teacher Ms. Burnham, asked her class what is the first step of making hot chocolate. The class said get hot water. She got the hot water and asked what was next. The class said make hot chocolate. She told them she only had hot water. One student told her to get the hot chocolate. She got the hot chocolate. Students told her to get the hot water. She then asked them what came next? The students said to make hot chocolate. She tried, but she did not have a cup. The students then figured out that they needed to start all over to gather the necessary supplies. They started over by gathering all of the supplies. Cup, spoon, hot chocolate packet, then they boiled water. Then they said to make the hot chocolate, but the next step was actually to open the hot chocolate packet and pour it into the cup. They continued on step by step until they made the hot chocolate. Ms. Burnham said, "It was really fun to listen to the kids' thought process to go all the way back to the start and pay attention to the details. Halfway through they left out some details. Like coding, there are so many steps that cannot be left out." #WeAreSouthSummit #HourOfCode #CodingWeek #SilverSummitElem
