July 30, 2020

Dear Parents,

Have you ever felt overworked and underappreciated? I believe parenting is the profession that most reflects this statement, especially when trying to navigate uncharted waters of a pandemic and kids want to be kids! Thank you for all you’re doing to keep you and your family safe and healthy. Being a partner with you in your child(ren)s education is a privilege. I want to apologize for those who experienced technical difficulties when trying to participate in the parent meeting earlier this week. We had tested and thought everything was working, but unexpected issues happened. The Facebook Live video is the best recording and is available online at: https://www.facebook.com/southsummitschooldistrict/videos/626722851283861/

We are currently answering each question that was asked via Facebook Live and Zoom and adding them to our FAQ document, which is available here:

https://core-docs.s3.amazonaws.com/documents/asset/uploaded_file/817840/7_26_20_School_Reopening_FAQ.pdf. Please note, this is a fluid document and will be updated on a regular basis. Check back daily for new information.

We know there are still many unanswered questions, which we may not be able to answer for some time. Given the nature of the pandemic, unknowns are inevitable. We will do our best to provide the best answers we can based on the information we have available to us at the time.

As we embark on this thing called blended learning, online learning and even a new version of face to face instruction, I am asking you as parents to please refrain from publicly scrutinizing your child’s teacher, school, and even our district for the way we are teaching, the lessons they are assigning, or the decisions made to provide options for student learning. I am calling on you to stand up for educators if you hear or see negativity in person or on social media. Offer kindness and forgiveness to your child’s teacher and other school employees. I promise educating and keeping your children safe is our #1 priority. We are navigating uncertainty with little idea of what to expect. This is a crisis, not a time to be playing armchair quarterback, but to fully engage in this partnership of educating our greatest asset, your children. We love our students and are doing our absolute best.

If you haven't submitted your School Learning Options Form, please do so by Monday, August 3, 2020 at 5:00 p.m.

Thank you again for supporting your child's education. More information will be forthcoming in the near future.
